It targets teenagers with Instagram , Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. it also communicates with professionals a through Linkedin. The way that amazon uses these social media in to retain....or remind customers to go and shop through the main site.. The reason why the pages don't have many followers is that all who are interested just type www.amazon.com in their browsers because they shop directly from their browsers. Amazon uses various ways to advertise and grow through the internet. There are discussion (forum) pages on the main site where people can discuss , just about any topic that interests them or a concern with other users. This helps keep existing customers active and gives them a reason to come back to the site more often, even though they weren't going to shop for something. E-mails are sent regularly and sometimes can be disturbing, but they help retain existing customers. Amazon utilizes two blogs at the moment: One for its Cloud/Server/Hosting service[http://aws.typepad.com/] and one for its associates [http://amazonassociates.typepad.com] (Amazon Associates is a program which rewards publishers that have websites with commissions for promoting amazon products through ads.) The Amazon Web services blog provides articles on how to deploy various applications on amazon hosted servers and features successful stories from companies that currently use the service The Amazon Associates blog features the ads that publishers can use to advertise amazon’s products on his site and encourages them to use them. Both Blogs are updated regularly. John Simons Background: Works at a tech company as a network engineer. I personally think that one of the key competitors to Amazon is eBay.com since they are both two of the top online marketplaces. Amazon outranks eBay in terms of visitors, since Amazon’s global rank is #10 and eBay’s #25. In the US Amazon wins again by being #5 and eBay being #8. Amazon has a higher bounce rate (28.20%) compared to eBay (22.60%). eBay has more daily page views per visitor, due to the fact that amazon has one listing per product and groups them together. eBay may have several, confusing visitors and forcing them to check each listing individually, thus the higher page views per visitor. This is also one of the reasons that visitors spend more on eBay than Amazon. (9.15min vs 11.54). More females than Males use both sites, mostly college students. Amazons visitors came from the US, India, Japan, UK and Canada. Whereas eBay visitors came from the US, India, Russia, UK and Japan. Traffic for Amazon came from Google, Facebook, eBay, Yahoo and YouTube. For eBay traffic came from YouTube and Yahoo. The search visits for both sites are about the same. (Around 16%). The total sites linking into Amazon are 943,890 way more than eBay’s 185,916. Sites related to amazon are Buy.com (?), amazon.co.uk, ebay.com (?) and barnsandnoble.com. eBay.com is related to the European eBay site (eBay.co.eu) and PayPal which is the main secure payment processor for eBay. Amazon also Loads faster than eBay. I think that amazon can learn something from its competitor, because it has made any process easy and sometimes automated versus eBay, which is hard to navigate and sometimes not very reliable. **Data based on alexa.com Rankings Company Name: Amazon.com Inc. Stock Ticker Symbol: AMZN Corporate HQ Location: Seattle, Washington Main Website: www.amazon.com Number of employees: (end of 2013) 117,300 full-time and part-time. Amazon is mainly a service that also provides its own product lines. What differentiates Amazon from other brands are the following:
Amazons Mission Statement: “…..to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online, and endeavors to offer its customers the lowest possible prices…..” SWOT ANALYSIS CHART: Online Recommendations: Amazon has an embedded review system on their website for each product, where customers can post reviews and rate the product using one to five stars. The cumulative star rating is then displayed on the top of the product page. I think the reviews system is already functional and I don’t think it should be subject to any changes. |
