I personally think that one of the key competitors to Amazon is eBay.com since they are both two of the top online marketplaces.
Amazon outranks eBay in terms of visitors, since Amazon’s global rank is #10 and eBay’s #25. In the US Amazon wins again by being #5 and eBay being #8. Amazon has a higher bounce rate (28.20%) compared to eBay (22.60%). eBay has more daily page views per visitor, due to the fact that amazon has one listing per product and groups them together. eBay may have several, confusing visitors and forcing them to check each listing individually, thus the higher page views per visitor. This is also one of the reasons that visitors spend more on eBay than Amazon. (9.15min vs 11.54). More females than Males use both sites, mostly college students. Amazons visitors came from the US, India, Japan, UK and Canada. Whereas eBay visitors came from the US, India, Russia, UK and Japan. Traffic for Amazon came from Google, Facebook, eBay, Yahoo and YouTube. For eBay traffic came from YouTube and Yahoo. The search visits for both sites are about the same. (Around 16%). The total sites linking into Amazon are 943,890 way more than eBay’s 185,916. Sites related to amazon are Buy.com (?), amazon.co.uk, ebay.com (?) and barnsandnoble.com. eBay.com is related to the European eBay site (eBay.co.eu) and PayPal which is the main secure payment processor for eBay. Amazon also Loads faster than eBay. I think that amazon can learn something from its competitor, because it has made any process easy and sometimes automated versus eBay, which is hard to navigate and sometimes not very reliable.
